Leader & Times staff report

Two year ago, the Rattlers lost out of a shot at the state championship due to a three-way tie breaker that worked against Cimarron River.

Since then, the Rattlers have won two state championships and a Midwest Regional runner-up finish.

This year, the Rattlers dominated at the state tournament including the championship game. The Rattler 13-year-olds won the championship game against Fort Scott 20-3.

The Rattlers jumped out to a 6-0 lead in the first two innings before Fort Scott scored three runs to cut the lead in half.

But the flood gates opened, and the Rattlers made contact against five different Fort Scott pitchers in the 20-3 rout.

Jared Hasik was awarded the AHHP Award for the second year in a row.

The team will travel to Bismarck, North Dakota for the Midwest Regional tournament Aug. 3-8.

“Fort Scott was tired,” assistant coach Jacob Fitzgerald said. “We jumped all over them. No one could shut us down.”

The Rattlers will play the champions from Minnesota to open the Midwest Regional at 10:30 a.m. Aug. 4.
