The Lady Redskin volleyball team completed its preseason scrimmage by sending a spike to former head coach Hugo Cano. The ball skipped off his hands and out of bounds, and the Lady Redskins swept the match in two games to compete their sneak peek appearance Thursday night at the Big House.
The Lady Redskins also defeated the junior varsity, and the freshmen team pulled an upset with a victory over the junior varsity.
“It’s nice to have the first game with ourselves,” Liberal coach Thais Baziquetto said. “It takes the pressure off. They learn to play together, they can make mistakes, and I can see them in a game scenario.”
Liberal played without Riley Hay who suffered an ankle injury earlier in the week. Younger players were filling in key roles after the Redskins graduated four starters last year and former starter Emily Bayouth opted not to play her senior year.
