RUSSELL E. DEWITT

HUGOTON – Russell “Russ” E. Dewitt, 59, died Friday, March, 13, 2009, in Amarillo, Texas.

He was born Aug. 13, 1949, to James and Margaret E. (Clark) Dewitt in Fruita, Colo.

He married DeDe Eidson Dec. 15, 1976, in Hugoton. She died Aug. 25, 2001.

He served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. He was a police officer for 34 years, serving 28 as Stevens County sheriff.

He was a member of Trinity Baptist Church of Hugoton.

Survivors include two sons, Craig Mantzke, Hugoton, and Jim Dewitt, Ute Park, N.M.; two sisters, five grandchildren; and many relatives and friends.

He was also preceded in death by his parents, one brother and four sisters.

o Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at the First Christian Church in Hugoton with Minister Larry Bradford presiding.

Military graveside services will be conducted by the Fort Riley Honor Guard at the Hugoton Cemetery.

Friends may call from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday at Paul’s Funeral Home.

Memorials are suggested to the Hugoton American Legion and may be mailed to Paul’s Funeral Home, Box 236, Hugoton, KS 67951.
