The Turpin Cardinals lost their second straight district game Friday falling to Fairview on the road, 40-7.
Fairview wasted no time getting on the board, returning the opening kickoff 80 yards for a touchdown and a 6-0 lead.
Turpin’s lone score came in the first quarter when Matt Mendoza broke free on a 78-yard touchdown run with 8:10 left in the first, cutting the Fairview lead to 12-7. Mendoza was hurt early in the contest and finished with only four carries.
Fairview added two more TDs in the second quarter to take a 26-7 lead into the locker room.
Turpin was outgained 469-204, and was forced to punt eight times.
Defensively, the Cardinals were led by Jake Jiminez and Matthew Gross who both finished with 10 tackles. Thomas Kuns and Mendoza each had a sack.
Offensively, Mendoza finished with 98 yards rushing and a touchdown, Willy Enriquez had 55 yards on 18 carries. Bradley Kinser was 4 of 10 for 22 yards passing, and Francisco Regalado caught two passes for 15 yards.
Turpin falls to 1-4 overall, and 0-2 in district, and will host No.2 Thomas Friday.
