RONALD W. SUMNER
Ronald W. “Bill” Sumner, 81, died Sunday, Feb. 22, 2009, at Southwest Medical Center in Liberal.
He was born Jan. 31, 1928, to Arthur and Eva Mae (Harding) Sumner in Thief River Falls, Minn.
He married Donna Koland Aug. 18, 1947, in Chicago. She died Oct. 19, 2008.
He retired as owner – operator of Modern Insulation. He then became owner – operator of Bill’s Insulation, and for the past eight years, he worked at Wal-Mart Garden Center. He served in the U.S. Navy from Jan.18, 1946, to Nov. 17, 1947.
He was a member of the VFW.
Survivors include six sons, Dean Sumner and wife, Debbie, Liberal, Rickie Sumner, Garden City, Larry Sumner and wife, Pauline, Liberal, Kelly Sumner and wife, Kim, West Lafayette, Ind., Ronnie Sumner and wife, Carman, Liberal, and Robert Sumner and wife, Julie, Liberal; five daughters, Ginger Salmans and husband, Nyle, McLouth, Shelia Lucas and husband, Randy, Liberal, Rhonda Sumner, Liberal, Patty Rosenbeck and husband, Joe, Medina, N.Y., and Donetta Conn and husband, Terry, Denton, Texas; two brothers, Arthur Sumner Jr. and wife, Sandy, Worthington, Minn., and Clifford Sumner and wife, Maxine, Thief River Falls; two sisters, Janice Jamis and husband, Wayne, Wichita, and Bonnie Hanson, Roseau, Minn.; 25 grandchildren; 17 grandsons, Joshua, Chad, Jesse, Derek, Eric, Jeff, Brian, Jerame, Benjamin, Luke, Joseph, Jacob, Kegan, Konner, Reid, Rance and Brody; eight granddaughters, Natalie, Donna Michelle, Andrea, Kylie, Michelle, Lauren, Jessica and Evan; and 14 great- grandchildren, Olivia, Benjamin, Saylor, Sophia, Ali, Peyton, Zachery, Jayden, Mackenzie, Bryce, Hailey, Hunter, Morgan and Cash.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Larry Sumner; and one sister, Linda Hayes.
o Funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Liberal Friends Church with the Rev. Bill Prater presiding.
Burial will be at Liberal Cemetery with military honors given by American Legion Post No. 80.
Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday with the family present from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at Kitch-Brenneman Funeral Home.
