After a disappointing performance at the Western Athletic Conference volleyball tournament last weekend, the Lady Redskins are preparing to qualify for the state tournament, but the road to state will likely require two upset victories at Goddard.

Liberal’s record of 15-19 earned the Lady Redskins the No. 5 seed out of eight teams in their Sub-State pairings.

Liberal will face No. 4 Goddard-Eisenhower. The Lady Tigers turned in a record of 18-17 in their first season at the new high school.

If the Lady Redskins upset Eisenhower, they will likely face Kapaun Mt. Carmel who is the No. 1 seed in the Sub-State pairings with a record of 29-8. The Lady Crusaders are facing the Wichita West Pioneers in the first round, and they enter the match-up with an 0-24 record. The winner of the four-team tournament will advance to Sub-State.

In the opposite pairings, No. 2 Bishop Carroll (25-12), will face No. 7 Ark City (3-32), and No. 3 Goddard (21-17) will battle No. 6 Winfield (4-30).

Games begin at 2 p.m. Saturday at Goddard High School.
