The Hooker Lady Bulldogs used a second quarter surge to take control of the game, and held on to defeat the Forgan Lady Bulldogs, 44-39.

“I was pleased with how we competed,” Forgan coach Brett Trippet. “We didn’t have a great offensive game, and that had a lot to do with what Hooker did. They put a lot of pressure on us, and just hounded us all over the court. It always felt like Hooker controlled the game from the beginning. We were always trying to get back into the game even when we led at the end of the first quarter.  They dictated the pace, and we were left to counter-act it.”

Hooker took a 6-2 lead early in the first quarter, but Forgan battled back and led 9-8 heading into the second quarter. Hooker outscored Forgan 11-6 in the second to lead 19-15 at the break.

Hooker increased their lead to seven in the third, and led 33-26 heading into the final period. Forgan’s interior players were in foul trouble most of the second half and Hooker took advantage by continually challenging Forgan in the post. Hooker increased their lead to ten, but Forgan was again able to cut the lead back to only two late in the game.

But Hooker never relinquished the lead and held on for the win.

“We had our chances late, but just couldn’t overcome the defensive pressure to catch them,” said Trippet. “It wore us down. They ran eight girls at us and just had constant pressure on us. It was our first game, so we didn’t handle the pressure as well as we would have liked.”

Hooker was led in scoring by Kyra Cathcart with 19. Forgan was led by Kenzi Taylor with 23, and Gabby Morales with 8.

Hooker is now 2-0 on the season and will host county rival Texhoma Friday. Forgan is 0-1, and will host their county rival Beaver Friday.
