A slow start proved to be very costly for the Hooker Lady Bulldogs who lost 39-34 to tournament host Hugoton in Friday night’s semi-finals.

Hugoton possibly playing off of the emotion of the home-town crowd jumped out to an early lead and led 10-2 at the end of the first quarter. Hooker was able to cut two points off of the lead before halftime, but still trailed 22-16.

The Lady Bulldogs outscored the Lady Eagles 10-6 in the third to make it just a two point game heading into the fourth and deciding quarter, 28-26.

But Hugoton was able to make enough key shots to hold on for the five-point win.

Hooker’s Jayme Walton was the game’s top scorer with 12 – all coming on four 3-pointers. Kyra Cathcart had 10, and Shania Miller 8. For Hugoton Nicole Kinser and Miranda Ramsey each had 8.

Hugoton moves on to the championship game against rival Southwestern Heights, while Hooker faced Ulysses in the third place matchup Saturday
