HOOKER, OKLA. – The Hooker Lady Bulldogs wasted little time with the Tyrone Lady Bobcats, jumping out to a 21-4 lead on their way to a 63-25 win.
Nine players scored for Hooker with post players Kyra and Jade Cathcart scoring 16 and 13, respectively, as the Lady Bulldogs were continually able to push the ball into the paint for close shots and put backs. Guards Jessica Ugarte and Brittney Bergner stepped up their defensive pressure with senior guard Jayme Walton out sick.
“We played pretty well,” said Hooker coach Ray Kennedy. “ One of the main things I wanted them to do tonight was communicate better on the court. We still need to improve in that area. Everybody got in and got to play tonight, and it’s good to have those sometimes.”
Hooker led 31-11 at halftime. An 11-0 run over the first three minutes of the second half by the Lady Bulldogs put an end to any hopes of a big comeback or even a close game for the Lady Bobcats now trailing by 31.
Beyond both Cathcart’s scoring, Jessica Ugarte had six points; Shania Miller, Mariana Cervates, and Dana Jimenez each had five. For Tyrone, Amber Andrews scored six and Tori Dumler had five.
