The Hooker Bulldogs finished out their pre-Christmas schedule with a resounding 62-33 win over Stratford, Texas.

The Bulldogs were able to; once again, pressure their opponents in their full-court press. They also got hot from beyond the arc, hitting six 3’s including four in the first half. Hooker led 16-6 after the first quarter, and got up by twenty in the second quarter before foul trouble slowed them down. Four players were out with two fouls, and the Elks were able to cut the lead a little. Hooker still led at the break 35-18.

“We got off to a quick start,” said Bulldogs coach Bud Valerius. “We were really ready to play. We got a lot of points in transition, got a lot of points off of turnovers. That really sparked us.”

Joe Bean sparked the Hooker offense to start the second half, by scoring the first eight points of the quarter. Those points held as Hooker outscored Stratford 14-6 in the third to take a 49-24 lead into the fourth quarter where mainly the reserves played.

“We are playing well, and we are getting better every day,” said Valerius. “But I still think we are a long ways from where we need to end up. I think we will continue to build off this start. The attitudes are great, and the kids are hungry to get better.”

Bean finished the game with a team-high 18, Chad Kennedy scored 14, and Payson Slater had 8. Hooker has won seven straight, and improved to 9-1 heading into the Christmas break.
