The Liberal Bulldogs senior babe ruth team played at home last night against Ulysses. It wasn’t the best night at the plate for the Bulldogs but pitching was key in their third consecutive victory, 8-6, over Ulysses.

The Bulldogs are now 3-0 in A-games and 3-0 in B-games with a 6-0 total record. All three of those A-game wins have one likeness. In all three games the Bulldogs came back from some point in the game to win.

The game was tied 1-1 in the second inning, but the Bulldogs added two in the second to take a 3-1 lead.

Ulysses answered with a run in the third and used the next two innings to jump out to a 5-3 lead.

But the Bulldogs battled back to take a 6-5 lead and added two more runs late.

Jeff Granger pitched the first five innings for the Bulldogs, and Jace Moore came in for the final two innings.

“Our hitting wasn’t that good, but Granger did really well pitching,”

Liberal coach Eric Olmstead said. “This was Jace’s first game. I asked him if he could throw a couple innings. He said he could, so we put him in. He threw hard. He’ll be starting Monday.”

The biggest struggle for the Bulldogs was getting the key hit with scoring opportunities. Bulldogs would get on base at times but the timely hit to score the runner never came. That was a frustration for Olmstead.

Still, the Bulldogs are off to a perfect 6-0 start.

Liberal has wins at home against Garden City, at Guymon and at home at Ulysses. Liberal will play in Lakin Friday and in Garden City Monday and then they’ll be back at home Wednesday to play Guymon.

Next weekend starting on Friday the Bulldogs that are 17 and under will attend the Dodge City 17 and under tournament.
