What started as a competitive battle through three innings came untied for the Laces late in Game 1 of a two-game match-up with Guymon Monday at the Liberal Softball Complex.
The Laces had a 3-2 lead, but fell behind in the fourth and could not recover in a 15-4 loss.
“We started out batting well, but we just fell apart with errors,” Liberal coach Dale Scheuerman said. “We made some bad throws and we weren’t catching the ball.”
Megan Campbell pitched the opener for the Laces and was relieved in the sixth by Marina Rageth who recorded the final two outs.
In Game 2, the Laces battled all the way to the end and forced an extra inning before dropping the game 14-13.
“That game finally ended at about 11:30 last night,” Scheuerman said. “It was a real good game. We had some untimely errors, but overall it was a good game. Nip and tuck the whole way.”
Maddie Plunk had a triple, and Brooke Scheuerman and Emily Bayouth each had a double.
Marina Rageth pitched the distance for the Laces.
Liberal (4-9 overall) is scheduled to host the first round of the league tournament at 7 p.m. Thursday against Hugoton.
