LEONARD W. HARREL
Leonard W. “Buck” Harrel, 92, died Sunday, July 12, 2009, at his residence.
He was born March 6, 1917, to J.W. and Anna E. Deistler Harrel in Stevens County.
He married Billie B. Bryant July 18, 1940, in Guymon. She died Dec. 20, 2001.
He graduated from Liberal High School in 1938. He was captain of the high school football team.
He worked for Coca-Cola in Shamrock, Texas. He returned to Liberal in 1943, and began farming and ranching, known at the HB Ranch north of Liberal. He retired from the ranch in 1967 and moved to Liberal. He was crop adjuster for Farm Bureau, and later for Janzen-Elder Insurance, adjuster and agent for Blakely Crop-Hail Insurance and Cimmaron Insurance Companies. He had been a resident of Liberal Springs for the past four years.
He was a charter member of the Elks Lodge No. 1947.
He is survived by two daughters, Judy Scranton and husband, Beryl, Liberal, and Nancy Parsons and husband, Don, Liberal; two granddaughters, Sheri McDowell and husband, Jack, Florissant, Colo., and Stacey Sandell and husband, Scott, Liberal; and two great-grandchildren, Dylan and Hunter Sandell.
He was also preceded in death by his parents and eight brothers.
o Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the Miller Chapel with the Rev. Dr. Stephen Saville presiding.
Burial will follow at the Restlawn Memorial Gardens.
Friends may call from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Miller Mortuary.
Memorials are suggested to the St. Catherine Hospice or to Liberal Springs in care of the mortuary.
