Former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee, who carried Kansas in the GOP presidential caucuses last year, will speak at a fundraising dinner in Hutchinson for State Sen. Tim Huelskamp, R-Fowler, who is seeking the Big First District GOP congressional nomination.
The event will be on Wednesday, July 22, at the Kansas Cosmosphere and features the biggest name – and the only 2008 presidential candidate – to appear at a congressional fundraiser anywhere in Kansas.
“The first district is blessed to have such a capable and proven leader like Tim Huelskamp. I am committed to doing what I can to help make sure he can bring those Kansas values to Washington D.C. – because we all know we have enough Washington values already,”
“We are honored that Governor Huckabee has not only endorsed us – but that he is also willing to come to the Big First District to campaign for us as we head into a time of year when it’s historically tough to raise campaign funds,” Huelskamp said.
Huckabee is an especially important figure in Kansas, because he won the GOP presidential caucuses in the state last year. Additionally, he has continued to generate national recognition with his highly- acclaimed Fox News Channel commentary show and his daily radio show The Huckabee Report.
“This is part of our effort to build a long-term campaign that grows stronger each fundraising quarter. We could have asked the governor to come in last quarter, but we decided this would give us a shot in the arm as we head into the summer months, which are notoriously slow months from which to raise money,” said Huelskamp spokesman Brian Weber.
