LEWIS M. WELLS
PLAINS – Lewis Miller Wells, 81, died Friday, Oct. 9, 2009, at Meade District Hospital.
He was born Nov. 17, 1927, to the Rev. Rolley Lewis and Martha Helen (Miller) Wells in Hugoton.
He married Maxine Rickers Dec. 21, 1947, in Plains. She survives.
He was a graduate of Syracuse High School and Wichita State University.
He owned Wells Clothing and Gifts for 40 years and was Plains city clerk for 37 years. He was a veteran of World War II serving in the United States Navy.
He was a member of the Plains United Methodist Church, Masonic Lodge, Wichita Consistory and Lions Club.
He is also survived by one son, Jeffrey Wells and wife, Margie, Liberal; one daughter, Janis Intlehouse and husband, Steve, Hanover, Va.; one sister, Elinor Keesling, Newton; two granddaughters, Candice and Crystal; and six great-grandchildren, Rebekah, Alex, Elizabeth, Aleiah, Desirae and A.J.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Delbert Wells; and three sisters, Neta Mae Bullard, Frances Trotter and Opal Anderson.
o Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Plains United Methodist Church with the Rev. Steve Morgan presiding.
Burial will be at the Plains Cemetery.
Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Fidler-Orme-Bachman Mortuary of Meade.
