Janet “Jeannette” “Tata” Smith, 72, died Thursday, Nov. 12, 2009, at her residence in Liberal.
She was born July 9, 1937, to John Willie and Myrtle (Cotton) Hopkins at Borger, Texas.
She was a 1955 graduate of Liberal High School.
She worked as secretary for the Cimarron American Red Cross through the Greenthumb program and was past secretary for Big Brothers Big Sisters. She had also worked many years at National Beef Packing Co. in fabrication.
She was a member of Deliverance Powerhouse and the Spade Club.
She enjoyed her grandchildren’s sporting events and sharing homemade chocolate chip cookies.
She is survived by two sons, Connie Hopkins, Wichita, and Shawn Smith, Liberal; three daughters, Velma Williams, Liberal, Wilma Carr, Dallas, and Regina Smith, Jacksonville, Ark.; one brother, John Willie Hopkins Jr., Cheyenne, Wyo.; 11 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her father, her mother, Myrtle Dashiell, one brother, Charles Dean Hopkins, and one great-granddaughter.
o Funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Bibleway Church of God in Christ with Pastor M. L. Tatum and Supt. Lawrence Johnson presiding.
Burial will follow at Liberal Cemetery.
Friends may call from 1 to 8 p.m. Wednesday and 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday at Kitch-Brenneman Funeral Home.
