ULYSSES – Joan A. Fort, 79, died Monday, Nov. 23, 2009, at Bob Wilson Memorial Hospital in Ulysses.

She was born Oct. 5, 1930, TO Henry John and Olive Leona (Dalrymple) Platt in Trenton, N.J.

She married Raymond Fort June 19, 1959, in Tehran, Iran. He died April 30, 2003.

She graduated from Maryville College with a degree in education.

She taught English as a second language in elementary schools.

She enjoyed knitting, her church groups and the Dana Minor Circle at church.

Survivors include two sons, John Clifford Fort and wife, Elizabeth, Cincinnati, Ohio, Sgt. Som Prasad Fort and wife, Jin, of Korea; two daughters, Cynthia Louise Fort, Derby, Vt., and Sandra Fort Smith and husband, John, Winter Park, Fla.; one sister, Bonnie Larson, Trenton; seven grandchildren, Alex, Lynne and Scott Fort, Steven and Alison Raye Smith, Joan Rose and Eugene Cresent Fort; one brother-in-law, Bill Fort and wife, Dorothy,  Ulysses; sisters-in-law, Patricia Fort and Lynda Fort, both of Ulysses, and Sarah Mae Finch and husband, Jack, Bartlesville, Okla.;  and many relatives and friends.

She was also preceded in death by her parents.

o Funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at the First United Methodist Church in Ulysses with the Rev. Wayne Flanders and the Rev. Bill Harrold presiding.

Burial will follow at the Ulysses Cemetery.

Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. Friday at Garnand Funeral Home in Ulysses.

Memorials are suggested to the Raymond Fort Memorial Fund for Education in care of Garnand Funeral Home, 405 W. Grant Ave., Ulysses, KS  67880.
