ULYSSES – Juan Garcia, 49, died Monday, Oct. 28, 2013, at the Kearny County Hospital in Lakin.

He was born Jan. 10, 1964, to Ernesto and Esperanza (Garcia) Garcia in Lockney, Texas.

He attended Ulysses schools.

He worked for Micro Solutions mixing chemicals.

He was a rodeo clown.  He was a world champion barrel man for IPRA in 2003, 2008 and 2009.  He served on the Beef Empire Days Rodeo and the All-American Beef Battalion committees. He also drove the limousine for Old Fashioned Limo Service and volunteered with Big Brothers/Big Sisters, Miles of Smiles and at Garden Valley Retirement.

He is survived by his mother, Esperanza Garcia, Ulysses; his son, Preston Carr and wife, Jennifer, Garden City; his brothers, Wally Garcia and wife, Dora, Garden City, Luis Garcia and wife, Hortensia, Ulysses, and Ernie Garcia and wife, Cindy, Ulysses; his sisters, Mary Valdez and husband, Joe, Ulysses, Irene Garcia Nieto and husband, Jesus Ulysses, and Salome Perez and husband, Bob, Lakin; and two grandchildren, Bryan Carr and Samuel “Popeye” Martinez.

He was preceded in death by his father, his grandparents and his sister, Pauline Garcia.

• Vigil service will be at 7 p.m. Friday at Garnand Funeral Home Chapel.

Funeral mass will be at 2 p.m. on Saturday at Mary, Queen of Peace Catholic Church in Ulysses, with the Rev. Peter Fernandez presiding.

Burial will follow at the Ulysses Cemetery in Ulysses.

Friends may call from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday and Friday at Garnand Funeral Home in Ulysses.
