Obituary


Jay Don Reynolds, 77, died Monday, Nov. 27, 2017 in Meade County.

He was born Oct. 3, 1940 in Avard, Okla. 

He married Sheila Preedy Feb. 19, 2011. She survives.

He graduated from Coldwater High School and attended Northwestern Oklahoma State University. He then completed his legal education at Washburn.  

He entered as a commissioned officer as a U.S. Marine and completed two tours in Viet Nam as a JAG officer. He continued to support the Marine activities throughout his life.

After Viet Nam he began his civilian legal career in Cimarron in 1969 and was elected county attorney for Gray County in 1971. He became 16th judicial circuit judge in 1977 and retired in 2001. 

He was a member of the American Quarter Horse Association, National Cutting Horse Association, VFW, and the Southwest Kansas Bar Association.  

He was an active member of the Dodge City community in various civic organizations including New Chance and the Dodge City Round Up Arena.

He enjoyed the outdoors. His love of horses continued with success in showing and breeding Quarter horses. Hunting was another passion, from elk in Colorado to wild pigs in Texas to alligators in Florida to the big game in South Africa.

Survivors also include sons, Mark Reynolds, Dodge City, and Chad Reynolds, Salem, Ore.; stepchildren: Rona Kramer, Cimarron, Darin Riedlinger, and Micalah Preedy, Meade; sister, Joan Owens, Oregon; nephews, Eric Owens, Oregon, and Dirk Reynolds, Okla.; and nieces, Reta Lindsley, Washington, and Deeana Printz, Oregon.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Cordilla (Olive) Reynolds and H.H. Reynolds; brother, Richard Reynolds; sister Patsy; and son, Christopher Reynolds.

 Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Friday, Dec. 8, 2017, at the Emmanuel Mennonite Church in Meade.

Burial will be at 2 p.m. Friday, Dec. 8, 2017 at the Kansas Veterans Cemetery in Ft. Dodge.

Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 7, 2017 with the family present from 7 to 8 p.m. at Fidler-Orme-Bachman Mortuary in Meade.  

Memorials are suggested to the Micalah Preedy Education Fund in care of the funeral home.
