After a first-game debacle in a  double header Friday, the Liberal Bulldogs played better in the second game but it was not good enough to get a win, and the Bulldogs were swept on the road at Hugoton.

Liberal gave up seven runs in the first inning and never recovered in a 12-0 loss.

“We got off to a horrible start,” Liberal coach Eric Olmstead said. “We could  only muster a couple of hits. We struggled swinging the bats.”

Hugoton’s Ross Davis kept the Bulldogs off the scoreboard in the run-rule shortened game.

Game 2 was a much closer contest, but the Bulldogs left the bases loaded in the seventh inning in a 3-2 loss.

Michael Begley started on the mound for Liberal and only allowed two runs. Hugoton added a third run against Stevie Lira in the sixth on a check-swing, two-out RBI single.

The Bulldogs will return home for six games next week beginning with a double header Monday against the Southwest River Rats. The first pitch is slated for 6 p.m.

The Bulldogs will host Woodward at 6 p.m. Tuesday and Hooker at 6 p.m. Thursday.
