TURPIN, Okla.-The Hooker Bulldogs hunkered down defensively and held the Turpin Cardinals to just 22 points in a 47-22 win Tuesday night.

“We’re coming along,” Bulldogs Coach Chad Hussey said. “We’re real young with only two seniors and two juniors. One of our seniors, Taylor McBee, is doing a great job for us even though he’s fighting through injuries and is not full strength right now.”

Hooker struggled offensively to start the game, but made up for it at the defensive end and led 10-2 with two minutes left in the first quarter.

Hooker ended the second quarter with another 10-2 run, and led 25-11 at the break.

Midway through the third, Hooker pushed the lead to 20 (33-13) on their way to a 25-point win.

“We came out and accomplished what we wanted to defensively, and hit the boards hard, limiting their second shots,” Hussey said.

Daytin Metcalf led the Bulldogs with 14 points, and Luz Rios added 9. Matt Young led Turpin with 6.

Hooker (3-1) will travel to Hugoton to face Ulysses in the round of the Blue and Red Classic Tournament, Thursday. Turpin (0-3) will face Texhoma today in the opening round of the Laverne Tournament.
