Last year the Turpin Cardinals made the playoffs as the four seed out of District 1 and proceeded to take down a district champion in the opening round of the playoffs. The Cardinals were again faced with this task, but could not take down the Pioneer Mustangs, falling 50-20.

Turpin racked up 415 yards of offense and controlled the ball for long stretches, but could not stop the Pioneer offense that scored on every possession until well into the second half. Trailing 22-0 in the second quarter, Turpin went 79 yards on 11 plays capped by a 1-yard TD plunge by quarterback Isaiah Villalobos. Turpin again scored on their next possession, going 68 yards on just three plays, as again Villalobos scored, this time from 12 yards out to make it a two-score game again (28-14). Pioneer added another TD before the half to take a 34-14 lead into the break.

Pioneer pulled away in the third, scored two more times to go up 50-14. Turpin took advantage of a fumble recovery and a short field when Villalobos found Juan Dominguez in the end zone for a 13-yard touchdown.

Villalobos finished the game with 216 yards rushing and two TDs on 33 carries. He also was 10- 21 passing for 111 yards and a TD. Logan Loomis rushed 11 times for 65 yards, and Cesar Anchondo rand 7 times for 23 yards and caught 7 passes for 59 yards.

Turpin finished 5-6.
