GARDEN CITY — The Lady Redskins jumped out to an early 8-1 lead and continued to outpace the Lady Buffaloes the rest of the night in a 45-21 Liberal win that pulled the Lady Redskins even in the Western Athletic Conference at 1-1 and 6-1 overall.

The Lady Redskins had a balanced attack, hitting five three pointers on the night to go along with a strong push in the paint by Machia Mullens.

Liberal built a 19-5 lead early in the second quarter after a three by Ali Lucero, but a 5-0 run by the Lady Buffaloes pushed the lead back to single digits at 19-10.

Liberal responded with an 11-1 run that included two baskets each from Katie Horyna and Mullens and a three from Audrey Gilmore, and Liberal had a 30-11 lead early in the third quarter.

Liberal finally pushed to a 20-point lead to start the fourth quarter when Lucero connected on another three, and Aubrey Warden hit a jump shot to give the Lady Redskins a 40-19 advantage, and the Lady Redskins coasted to the 45-21 win.

Horyna and Mullens led the Lady Redskins with 11 points each, and Lucero had 10.

Liberal will return home Friday to host the Dodge City Lady Red Demons before traveling to Oklahoma City Saturday for a 2 p.m. game against the Classen School for Advanced Studies.
