Young artists and writers were recognized last Monday at the beginning of that evening’s meeting of the USD 480 school board.

In the writing category, winner Aleczis Green, a 4th grader at MacArthur Elementary School, wrote about her teacher Mrs. Yowell.

“Mrs. Yowell motivates me to lear. Reads with enthusiasm. Spectacular decorations. Young at heart. She loves OSU! Go Cowboys! Warm hugs are great! Excited to teach. Listens to me. Loves me.” alt

Also in the writing category, Jalyn J., a 5th grader at MacArthur Elementary School, wrote about her teacher Mrs. Clifton.

“Mrs. Clifton was the best. She was the nicest, yet nobody stepped out of line. She had an important impact on everyone in the school. She would give us treats when we did good. I hated leaving her humble yet exciting classroom every day, but it was a treat going back in the morning. Every day got better when I thought it couldn’t. When we got in trouble, she encouraged us to do better and it always made us work harder. That year in her humble first grade class was the best year of my life.”

Writing category winner Kaci Y., a 4th grader at Prairie View Elementary School, wrote about her teacher Miss Hoffman.

“What I like best about Miss Hoffman is that she is nice and listens to what I have to say. I can’t believe how respectful Miss Hoffman is. I think that Miss Hoffman is fun and smart. She taught me a lot of stuff. I think I became way smarter than I was. I like how she explains stuff because when I didn’t get a subject, Miss Hoffman always tried to make us feel good. Miss Hoffman always listens to us when we have questions concerns. When I wave to Miss Hoffman, she always waves back. She always rewarded us when we were good. She always is telling us how much are test scores have gone up and how smart we are. I’m thankful that Miss Hoffman was my teacher. She would always make learning fun. Miss Hoffman loves all her students. This is what I like about my last year’s teacher Miss Hoffman.”

The final writing contest winner, Ashley M., an 8th grader at Eisenhower Middle School, wrote about her teacher Mrs. Green.

“I like Mrs. Green the best out of all teachers. Why? She knows how to make you smile every day. She’s funny as well. I’d say she’s my second mom. She lets us listen to music. She’s cool and chill. She looks pretty every day, she doesn’t have to even try to look her best. We do work that is fun and that I can do and understand. I love her smile as well! I miss her when she’s gone. It’s really different without her. She has the most beautiful voice when it comes to singing. I love calling her Mama Green.”
