The lady Saints dropped bomb after bomb on the Coffeyville Lady Red Ravens, connecting on four of their first five three-point shots, and by the time the final buzzer sounded, Seward had drained 16 threes in a 93-56 blowout.

The first five Seward baskets were three pointers form four different Lady Saints (Silvia Veloso, Vanessa Caro, Lexi Hernandez and Amy Scott), and the Lady Saints built a 15-7 lead.

Mollie Mounsey ended the first quarter with another bomb at the buzzer, and Seward jumped out to a 23-14 lead.

Chelsea Lazenby also added a three in the second quarter, and the Lady Saints made a total of nine threes in the first half to take a 47-27 lead.

But the barrage continued in the second half with three more bombs landing in the final tow minutes of the third quarter, and the Lady Saints extended the lead to 30, 73-43.

Four more three pointers in the fourth quarter continued to decimate the Raven defense, and Seward took its biggest lead of the game with four minutes to play with a 90-50 advantage.

The Lady Saint defense continued to disrupt the Coffeyville offense even with the reserves playing most of the final period, and Seward coasted to the 93-56 win.

Seward’s biggest scare of the game came early in the first quarter when All-American candidate Mollie Mounsey tweaked her ankle and limped off the floor. But she later returned to action, and Seward coach Toby Wynn limited her minutes in the blowout victory.

Vanessa Caro came off the bench to lead the Lady Saints with 16 points.

Amy Scott scored 14, Vilma Covane had 12, and Silvia Veloso scored 10.

The Lady Saints also spread the ball around with 26 assists. The Lady Saints forced 24 turnovers including 16 steals.

“Our team performed at a better level than we practiced the past two days,” Wynn said. “I didn’t really know what to expect. It was one of the few times I felt uneasy. But our team shared the ball, we had 26 assists, and found the open person. We have a good shooting team.”

Even though Mounsey tweaked her ankle, she returned and was able to play at her usual speed. But Wynn allowed her to rest with the game well in hand.

“If we are able to rest Mollie, we rest her.,” he said. “Every time we need our bench, they have stepped up to the occasion. Vanessa got us going offensively and kept it going the rest of the game.”

Caro landed four of her eight three-point shots in the win.

“I just try to get open, try to find shots,” she said. “Not necessarily for me but for my teammates, too.”

Many of Seward’s threes came form corner sets.

“Every play we have shooters in corners,” she said. “We know when to drive, when to pass, and their defense didn’t add up to our movement of the ball.”

The Lady Saints have a two-game lead in the Jayhawk Conference with only six games remaining.

“I don’t have to say a lot as a coach,” Wynn said. “This team is driven to accomplish their goals. For me, it is trying to make sure they maintain the effort level. I don’t want us to go into any game unprepared.”
